Alphabetic is a simple game for the iPhone and iPod Touch that is easy to understand and play, and hard to put down. The basic goal of the game is to spot and tap corresponding letters from A to Z within a time limit. To make the game more challenging, the letters spiral and bounce around the screen. Each time you tap the correct letter, 3 seconds is added to your time. Combo bonuses are also awarded for tapping the correct letters without missing. The first time I played this game, I ran out of time at about the letter H, but when I played through the second time and understood the game better, I made it through to Z with 28 seconds remaining. A nice feature in the game is the stats shown at the end of the game. These stats include your accuracy, longest chain and time left. These stats slightly add to the replayability of the game, but even better is that there are online stats and highscores, which is a great feature to have in a game. The game includes 3 modes: Quick Play, Challenge mode and a ‘Kids mode’ where you can disable the timer. There is also a high level of polish in the game, and a nice, simple style.

Graphics and Animation
The graphics are quite simple, but this isn’t a bad thing as detailed, high res graphics aren’t really required for this type of game. The use of color is great. 8/10

Presentation
The game is overall well presented, with clean and simple menus (although they are a bit boring), a nice icon and a un-cluttered HUD. The iPhone UI integration in the settings menu is a bit lame though, and it would have been nice for the settings to have the same style as the rest of the game. 7/10

Replayability
The game includes a challenge mode which will last you a while, and the online scores system will motivate you to beat others (and your own) scores. 7.5/10

Sound
Nice SFX when tapping a letter and menu items, but no music. 6/10

Controls
The controls aren’t a problem at all, and are pretty self-explanatory.

Gameplay
This game grows on you, and I found it to be quite addictive and fun to play. 8.5/10

Overall
Alphabetic is an addictive and enjoyable game that shows that simplicity can be a good thing. This is a great pick up and play casual puzzle game that I highly recommend for those looking for a simple and addictive game to play for a few minutes at a time. Online integration is fantastic, and greatly adds to the replayability. There is also a lite version available, so there is no reason to not try this game out.
